Sometimes....

Sometimes, the hill seems steeper and my legs feel heavier, but when I look ahead, there is Millie waiting...  We don't miss our walks over Hill Top.  At least we haven't for 922 days!  Our Thousand Days is not so far out there anymore.  But, we still have the worst of winter to get through...  And,  sometimes I wish I could just hibernate.

Sometimes we walk farther where there is no trail.

Sometimes Millie finds things along the trail, such as this deer jerky.

Not only am I walking every day, I am sewing something every day as well.  I just finished five pairs of hands/arms.  If I should reach 1,000 days of walking, surely I could do the same for sewing, but I definitely wouldn't want to sew hands for 1,000 days!   This is sewing day #17.

Sometimes, I stuffed arms while we watched television, usually some old movie or a football game.  One movie we watched recently was North to Alaska.  It was one of the first movies I saw on the big screen at the theater when I was a young girl. How wonderful it was when  Johnny Horton's song, "North to Alaska" filled every corner of that theater (even the balcony where I was sitting).  It definitely made a lasting impression on a young me, and Johnny Horton will forever be one of my favorite singers.

Where the river is windin' big nuggets they're findin'
North to Alaska go north the rush is on
North to Alaska go north the rush is on.

Since I have been spending more time in my sewing room, I may have to consider posting a few rules, such as these that showed up on Facebook.  I especially like the one about the seam ripper.

I was just 15 when North to Alaska came out but did not see it until the next year. Neither my DH nor myself can remember if we saw it in a theater or at a drive-in but we enjoyed it and in later years watched it again on TV. Loved that song too.
You and Millie sure have racked up the days you have walked without fail!!

I remember that song...had not thought of it in a while. But I never saw the movie that I remember.

You are doing wonderful with the walking, and also with the sewing. I really need to try to sew some every day. Even just a little bit. Little bits add up.

Those hands and arms do not look easy. I suppose they get a bit easier with doing them over and over...but still they take time and effort.

I have been lacking in my daily walks! You two are doing so well!

Like "Gotta sink the Bismarck 'cause the world depends on us." Whole different song, but Johnny Horton!

Yes, definitely...I say keep your hands off my sewing shears.

You have beautiful places to walk! And those hands! Oh my goodness, such fine work. I could never manage that and have to say you deserve some sort of award for patience! I should sew more too. I certainly have enough mending to keep my busy for a long time!

Still walking...that is amazing. I wish that were possible to do here; but we have had days so cold that 10 minutes outside could be harmful. But, sewing is possible. I've been keeping my days busy with needle and thread; hand quilting, cross stitch and soon some embroidery. Millie gives you great companionship on those walks; or perhaps she believes it is you that is the great company. Five pairs of hands/arms! It looks like detailed work. You are so talented. Now you have our curiosity up as to what these dolls will look like. I love the homespun look to the fabric the dolls are wrapped in; maybe I even have some in my collection. I love the Sewing Room Rules...they are all thoughts of a sewer! I always enjoy your post. As for our home...we are still awaiting medical answers...my husband says not to worry about things until we have something to worry about. Good advice but hard for some to follow. So for now I am staying busy with my needle and thread and living life quietly. Happy Stitching!

Oh my, I am cracking up! 😂 Hubby has still never seen N. To AK. I like the scene where he's trying to cut with the knife upside down. Also, I just showed him the "rules" as we both stood there and laughed. He totally understood 😊

I recall the song, but not the movie. Five new sets of arms and hands means five more lovely girls in the making! It's so fun to see your progress on each of your creations, all the detail and love you put into each personality. I wish I had the fortitude to stick with walking every day for 1,000 days!

I love those sewing room rules!! They would be good posted on the door of the room. :) Only one rule missing: Don't come looking for me at 4:00 p.m. to go do farm chores.

How did you learn to make those "limbs"? They're so realistic! You are amazing! I also like your pledges about walking and sewing. I don't walk if it's pouring out but it usually clears up for part of the day. I used to walk with my girls and then they couldn't walk so I didn't but I'm back walking again but instead of 45 minutes it's more like 10...around the block but once I get back in shape I'll push myself farther. I'd love to sew every day but my other pledge is clearing and cleaning so that someday I can sew every day! LOL!
You are a gal after my own heart!

That is some record! 922 days of walking every day is certainly something to be proud of. Nice sewing room rules, too!

Those sound like very good sewing rules! : )
Oh those hands sure look like tedious work. Must be hard to sew something so tiny. I'm sure impressed!!
That's a lot of days to walk outside in a row!! You certainly have me beat!! : )

This post, like all your posts, is wonderful! I enjoyed every word and picture. Oh, I loved that song and Johnny Horton and had the record, but can't remember the movie. That sign should be hanging in my sewing room too. All those things sure sound familiar...and I have two neighbors who bring me their pants to be hemmed. :( How did I miss your last four posts! That old old sewing machine of mine has a velvet lined box in the drawer with attachments. Wonder if one could be a ruffle maker? I don't know what any of the pieces are for. Love your old pictures!

I so enjoy seeing your sewing projects, Mary. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your lovely dolls. Congratulations for keeping up the walking. Walking in winter is a challenge. Today we had ice falling, so wimped out and took our walk in the mall. Thanks for reminding me of North to Alaska. I hadn't thought of it in ages. Catchy tune.

Hi Mary! I love this post. I have a lot of "sometimes" too. I love that you are working on dolly hands and dolls in general. I can barely sew, so I am always so envious of those with wonderful sewing skills. I look forward to seeing your dolls finished. Congrats on your walking! When you reach 1000 days, I hope you will continue. Walking is good for the mind, body and soul and you have the perfect place for walking. You also have a wonderful companion to walk with. Blessings to you! ~Carolyn

I love your commandments. Especially the pajama and hemyour pants ones. I am also a big Johnny Horton fan. Comanche, Jim Bridger, and Sink the Bismark are also some of my favorites.
