A Rainy Day...

We all know how wonderful it is to finally get rain after a long dry spell, so I won't carry on and on about how sweet it was, except to say, "Rain is such a blessing."

At first the cattle kept right on grazing, and actually seemed to be enjoying a good shower after so long.  As the rain became heavier, they did, however, take cover in the woods.

After the rain ended later in the day, Millie and I took to the trail.  The rain-cooled air felt quite wonderful, and I was reminded that I should be finishing up the trail jacket for days like this one.  (I have already made buttonholes, so there's not much left to do except to dye it, which has me a little nervous. I snapped this picture before I made the buttonholes.  I finally had to buy new buttons, which I didn't want to do, but I could never find enough old ones of the right size to do the job.)

Hi Mary, so happy you got rain and sounds like a soaker too-we are still waiting here for rain. It's always in the forecast too over the weekend we were cloudy and it dropped to the 70's no rain.-good thing for me no weed eating the grass haha.
I love your jacket? what dye will you be using? natural dye? It's been awhile since I have done any natural dyeing but I have allot of handspun skeins to dye-hoping I can do some this fall.
Loved seeing your pretty tanger I don't know if they are here too have never seen one.
Happy new week hugs from the lake

Am sure the cattle enjoyed the rain and not surprised they took refuge in the woods when it got too heavy. Am wondering if Millie wants to herd deer when she sees them. Love that you still make clothing. I used to but would rather hook now.

I'm wondering if you made machine or hand-worked buttonholes; also whether the dye process could result in shrinkage?
Rain is a blessing after a dry spell. At first the dry ground gives up a tired dusty smell, then suddenly there is the scent of refreshment.

That jacket looks far too nice to be a trail jacket! I like rainy days and it sounds as though we're in for several over the next week. Hopefully it doesn't settle in for 40 days and 40 nights though!

Oh Good...you got a lovely rain. I can imagine how lovely the air smelled after the rain stopped.
I can see the problem of finding at least 18 matching old buttons. These look just fine and I hope the dyeing works out. I don't think I've ever tried it.

I love hearing rain, even hard rain on the roof. Seeing it pour down is even better. (Don't like washouts though) The grass and weeds here are growing double time. Your cattle all got a good bath, didn't they? The jacket with buttons looks really nice. I anticipate seeing it after it has the final touch.

Such beautiful beautiful pictures. I think I would enlarge each one and frame them. We had been weeks without rain. I was about to give up on the garden but then all of sudden one of the thunderstorms decided to pass over our house. It was wonderful. Things are green and growing again. Mama used to say, Oh, it will rain again, it always does. Love your Shanty. Oh and the jacket is wonderful...it's beautiful. I love all the buttons.

I can almost feel your joy, here on the other side of the world. It's so nice when it finally starts to rain. We're expecting rain soon. Then I hope to go to the forest tomorrow morning. Maybe I'll write about it."

Does Millie chase the deer when she sees them? We had some wicked storms just come through. Lost power for a bit. Guess we are in for more later and the next three days. Then one day off and then more rain. Am hoping no flooding like the Northeast. I feel so bad for those folks that are now flooded out. Janice

Sometimes you can actually hear the earth drinking when it rains I think. We, too, had a bit of a drink last night - only 1/4" but, at this point, I will take it and I certainly will not complain given what other parts of our country are struggling with. Lovely photos, as always, Mary. If I had a wood like that, I would spend my days there. I truly would. Beautiful jacket...but, I agree...too precious for a trail jacket. ~Robin~

(sigh) Rain... so happy for you, for the earth, the cattle, the green growing things. I'm enjoying being here in the East where rain falls in the summer!!

Your jacket is looking lovely at this point. I don't remember if you said what color it will be in the end. I will look forward to seeing it then!

The jacket looks very nice! Well done. And I'm happy that you had some rain. Where I am, we're having too many rain storms and showers - nothing like a usual July, which is causing problems since we have a heavy soil.
