I never got around....

"Hidden Places"

Picture of the year 2025

I never got around to posting our picture of the year for 2025,  so here it is... only a few weeks late!  (It seems there are a lot of things that I never get around to these days! :(  It's really no surprise that this big gawky bird came in number one again, given how I have chased him many a crooked mile just to get a single picture.  He has had this honor before, you may remember, when "Were you too cold to fly?" took 1st Place.

Were you too cold to fly?  (A favorite of mine.)

He has even shown up a few times on journal pages, sketched and water colored.

As of yesterday, Millie and I have walked our hilltop trails 1400 times without missing.  It didn't look possible when the trails lay buried in layers of snow, sleet and ice that we would be able to reach that number, but, thanks to a higher power, some man-made trails and  lots of tall sturdy trees to hang onto, we did!!!

I was so busy hanging onto to everything within my reach,, that I didn't get many pictures of this storm, but here are just a few...

I absolutely LOVE "Hidden Places"!! The reflection in the water is the crowning touch. (But I equally love "Were You Too Cold to Fly?") And your watercolour rendition is pretty wonderful as well. It seems like it has been cold and snowy in many places that it usually isn't or, at least, "colder and more snowy" than typical in many places. So glad you and Millie managed to keep up your walks despite the weather. (Good to see a post from you!)

Loved all of your pics...even the snowy ones...though I am tired of Winter and wish Spring would come soon. Kudos to your walking days. Janice

Congratulations on 1400 walks. That's amazing; especially with the bad weather. Millie must think you are just the best mom/dog ever. I love that you vote for picture of the year. I am kind of partial to cow #22. The poor cows looks so cold. You probably got more snow than us so far. We would only get a trace to an inch at a time. But, it never went away with the cold. This week we hit 40's and we have almost all snow melted. You have a strong determination to keep up those daily walks. Good luck to keep that going (if you want to).

If we have another storm like this one, I am not going to tackle it. I know you are enjoying warmer weather. I know I am!

Thank you, CC. I actually like snow, but ice is another matter.

Spring sounds wonderful, doesn’t it. It was 72 here today. No coat needed!

Thank you, Sandra! Cow #22 does look cold but she was enjoying the grain anyway. The feed troughs were filled with snow, sleet and ice, but that didn’t stop the cows from enjoying their dinner. I am sure you enjoyed today’s 40 degrees. Your hours of sunlight are probably already longer than ours. I used to keep up with that when our son was there. Thank you for the comments. I appreciate that you haven’t forgotten me.

Yay! 1400 walks -- just to think of all those times that you were out there whatever the weather, with your dog and farm animals and trees, snow and dirt and sky.... It's good you were attending to your surroundings in the moment and not trying too hard to save parts for later by way of your camera. Your words make pictures, too, which I am always happy to read.

Great snow pictures. Thankfully you survived the snow and ice as did your cattle. Hopefully February will bring milder temperatures.
It's wonderful to know that you and Millie are still walking!!!

I know the animals are conditioned to the cold, but they look so cold, all snowed in.

Hello dear friend! So nice to see that the walks have continued, and that you and your walking buddy are well! Your place is beautiful. I love all the photos and your painting.

Oh, I love your photo of the year! A great shot. But there's also something about those snow-sprinkled cows. We still have a foot of snow on the ground, but we're in for above-freezing temperatures for the forseeable future. Maybe the bitter cold is over!

I don't know why it is that I think I'm commenting, but then I haven't. :( But the photo of the year is wonderful! What a nice shot. I'm amazed at your walking record - faithful, like the mail carrier. ;-)

Oh the picture of the year is exceptional. All of your photos are gorgeous though. Congratulations on 1400 walks. You are a kindred spirit because I never miss my walks with the dogs. I will say though it was a challenge for us these past couple of weeks...had over a foot of snow and it was quite a job to get through and make a bit of a path. Yeah - our snow is gone for the most part and walking is once again a joy. Your painting of the Heron is beautiful. Well here is "looking up" for spring. Hugs!

Herons are certainly impressive birds and very photogenic if you can get close enough. I am rather partial to cows though and always feel so sorry for them being out in the cold.
