"Every leaf looks like it is celebrating." That's a quote taken from one of my young students back in the day. I never forgot it.
There comes a day when one knows that the time is right for Celebrating the Leaf. Yesterday was the day. It was definitely not a day to stay inside, lingering in some dark corner while there was a wild riot of color exploding all over the great outdoors. So out the door we flew ~ Millie and Me ~ and this is what we found.
I was proudest of the shot of the oh-so-gorgeous red-tailed hawk. If I had taken my time and not been so careless, I think I could have gotten another of him in flight. But, I now know where he is hunting, so I will go back another day.
We gathered soggy leaves from streams of water to roll into bundles for eco-printed cloth like we have done in previous years.
Down by the creek, we found some very nice black walnuts that had already fallen to the ground. I am needing some dye, and perhaps some ink, for projects I have in mind.

Sure glad you found your way outside and took all these spectacular photos to share with us!!!
I love all the pictures but the Hawk one is special in its own way. I don't think I knew that you made leaf printed cloth. Very intriguing. I'm glad you and Millie took the opportunity to ramble and enjoy the season. All too soon the beauty of the trees will be past.
Gorgeous photos as always! So nice to see autumn in its prime again, even if it's a thousand miles away. Your leaf print cloth looks intriguing, have you posted about creating it earlier?
Beautiful fall foliage Mary. I wish our leaves had turned colors. Our flowering pear still has not dropped its leaves. Today the river was a bit wicked with the wind whipping white caps on it. We are staying warm and cozy right now with afire going. Supposed to get some of that "S" stuff soon. Janice
You must live in a truly magical place.... Those photos are just amazing...and just when I was about to say that nothing is prettier than fall trees reflected in the water, I saw the photo immediately after the photos of the hawk. THAT absolutely takes my words away. Our fall magic is gone here...and today more white stuff fell. I suppose it is time unfortunately. My winter chill has set in and settled in. Your eco-prints are beautiful. Some day I will try that. Maybe. ;-) Happy Weekend-to-be. ~Robin~
Oh, Mary! That photo below the hawk is like a fairytale set in autumn. You live in the perfect place for the Leaf Festival. Glory to the Leaves! Glory to their Creator! I hope some glory rubbed off on you, but that the excitement didn't keep you from sleeping like a quiet leaf in its winter bed. When you have rested well, you will wake a glorious human, in time to celebrate at least a few more days, I hope.
Beautiful post Mary-it is glorious there! and awesome you eco printed-I really enjoyed doing that awhile back. and I loved seeing the hawk Happy weekend-enjoy our leaves are raining down now with colder weather
Your photos of the fall colors and creek were so beautiful and so was the picture of the hawk.
...an explosion of color indeed!! A celebration of life in a new season.
What a gorgeous place you live in. It's great that you found things to take back home with you and use. Such a beautiful post!
Awe inspiring post! Can you tell me more about the echo printed cloth?
My heart sang with joy at each of the lovely fall shots! I always feel like I am living in a gold world when we pass under certain trees. I wonder if I would ever be tried of fall...I don't think I would.
lovely autumn colours and what a lucky shot of that bird of prey :)
Your photos should be used to make cards! I once did one of those eco-bundles and buried it most carefully in the flowerbed and then (you guessed it) promptly forgot about it. Wonder if the new owners of the house ever stumbled across it! I made walnut ink once too but didn't bring any of it here because I was afraid I'd spill it all over the carpeted floors. That stuff dyes EVERYTHING!!!!
These are the most beautiful fall pictures I've seen this year. We don't get pretty colors until mid November. I've started three posts but every day I look outside, the colors are more vibrant than the day before...so I've put my post on hold. :)
Oops, meant to say, my favorite picture is the one with Millie. It's simply beautiful!
Your photos take my breath away. Really, they are museum-quality photos. They capture the uncapturable! That bittersweet, exhilarating feeling of fall!
There's Millie again...I'm fond of your dog and I've never even met her. Does the walnut ink wash out of the cloth?
How beautiful all of your photos are! Your area is filled with so much beauty and I agree, pretty days are not days to stay inside. A wonderful photo of the hawk!
With such a lovely area as yours, I agree, it is not a day to stay inside. Your photos are so lovely and you got such a good photo of the hawk and your sweet dog!
Each and every photo is stunning!! And the hawk (you know I have a bird photo blog)...the hawk is fabulous!!
Have a beautiful evening and peaceful Sunday Mary.
Happy Thanksgiving, Mary!
It looks so beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
