365 Days and Counting...

It's a special day here on the hill for Millie and me.  We are celebrating another year of walking the trails without missing a day.  We just take one day at a time, step by step over the hills and across the meadows, then mark the calendar.  This date reads 365 walks, written in red.  It is worth remembering and recording here.

My weeks of semi-hibernation ended last week.  It was marvelous, and I accomplished much.   It had been my intention to not leave the farm at all during that time, but a couple of trips for food supplies seemed necessary.  I could have made it fine with what was on hand, but Dan thought we should go.  We will work on being better prepared next year.

With all of that behind us, I had a yearning this week to get out and about, which we did one day.  It wasn't any surprise that I found something for the shanty - a desk from which I can write and watch the birds.  I even have a good view of the garden which, hopefully, will soon be coming to life.

The desk is a bit shabby chic, which isn't my style, but it was sturdy and fit the space perfectly. I could always strip off the paint or paint over it.  I had also been needing a place for two old canvas decoys that I once fell in love with.  They seem happy here.

When rearranging the shanty, I realized that I now had space for more seating, so I brought in a bench from the porch.  There is now space for five inside the Shanty and for two on the porch.

Dried Zinnias from last year's garden still brighten up the Shanty. I am amazed that they are still so colorful.  I think my little tea party friends are going to enjoy our next gathering here when springtime and warmer weather decides the time is right.

I also have a new challenge going on (as though I needed another.)  It is a 365-day sewing challenge that I have pledged myself to.  I haven't missed a day of that since Jan. 1.  I am on a roll and enjoying tiny tucks and ruffles and lace for the girls.  I will be posting more of this work over at Linnie Butts & Co. when I finish a piece I am currently working on.

Happy walkiversary! That truly is a remarkable accomplishment....although it is still regrettable that you had to do a start over. Your new desk does look at home under its new window...and the decoys are beautiful. I know why you love(d) them. I am loving the wonderful lace and pintuck peeks. You have some very lucky girls. ;-) -20º real temp here this morning...and has to be worse now....we have a horrendous wind that has been howling at our doors all day and whipping the snow into a blinding frenzy. ~Robin~

Good on you and Millie for the big milestone!
Oh the dreaded trips to the grocery store that seem unavoidable - I've discovered the joys of curb side pick up and I'm hoping it is going to continue to be available. I detest grocery shopping so having someone do it for me is worth the $3 they charge.
Nice desk but you're right that it doesn't quite suit the surroundings. Maybe sanding it would make the shabby more pronounced and thus fit the aesthetic better?

Good for you and Millie not missing a day of walking for 365 days!!
And for not missing a day of sewing either. If I'm right Saturday will make it 50 days?? The girls will be thrilled with the new dresses.

This is such a lovely and peaceful post. I love your shanty space-what a special getaway that is on your property. A quiet place for writing and an invite space for tea. I love it. reminds me of a space I would find in Mary Jane's Farm magazine.
wow I need to get myself motivated like you again-a walk every day and now sewing every day too I can imagine the girls smiling inside for sure.
Happy weekend

Congratulations on another year of walking. I love the little desk, but would have not place for it. So I will admire it when you show it. And love those dried flowers.

The intrepid trekker! Congrats on another year of hiking your beautiful terrain! It looks warmer there, as if spring is about to burst forth. Your little shanty looks very inviting.

You two are quite the walkers! Great accomplishment for you both and I know your treks are fulfilling and healthy! The new desk? Lovely shape - color not. The bench indoors really fits the mood of the shanty as do the dried flowers and the sweet decoys.

Thank you, Robin. It's good to know that someone else likes the old decoys. There's something about the old cloth that I couldn't resist. -20 degrees. Wow! That would end any walking streak.

Thank you, Mary Anne. Yes, I think sanding is where I will start with giving the desk a new look. But I will wait for warmer weather.

Yes, G Marigold, those daily walks do keep up going, don't they. I enjoy your views from the lake.

Thank you, Betty. Those years come and go pretty fast these days. I doubt that Millie and I ever surpass our old record of 1,314 days.

Thanks, Kathy. You know those girls can get into a lot of mischief. I have had to hide the typewriter! :~)

Thank you, Anni. I think of you when we see water fowl at the pond. We look forward to seeing you over at Linnie Butts & Co.

Thank you, Rose. I will enjoy the desk in the Shanty, but definitely don't have room for it in the house. I have reached the point in my life where I don't like to change things up very much, but it has been fun in the little shed.

Thank you, Pat! Ha Ha, on the Intrepid Trekker! These years do roll on, don't they?

Thank you, Gert (aka The Nook)! Yes, it will take some work to get that old paint off, but when the weather permits, I will be out there sanding. I love those old decoys and dried flowers. They would be right at home in your lovely cabin home.

Congrats on the year of walking! Your shanty is just lovely. I love those old decoys-that will be such a wonderful place to sit and write, with the ducks looking on. The lovely sewing you are doing is very sweet too...

Kudos to you and Millie for a year of walking. I so love your bench and decoys. A perfect spot was bird watching! Janice

When years ago you told us how you had walked a thousand days, I could hardly believe it, but you said yes, it was true! I was so envious, and wanted what you have. At that point I set myself a goal of walking 100 days. But I think I did fewer than ten in a row. I guess it doesn't do, to compare myself to other people. I've never had a dog to walk with; that would probably have made me into a different person!

Anyway, it sounds perfectly glorious, that daily, simple, natural habit. And I love that you share it with us from time to time. Thank you!

You and Millie have such a beautiful place to walk. The shanty is perfect, absolutely perfect! I love the desk and the two old decoys. I've seen many she sheds, and potting sheds, and little buildings but the shanty is my favorite. Oh Mary, I can't understand how I miss your posts. I've just looked back at Millie's birthday and the post about the snow. Both are just beautiful, and interesting. Sometimes I realize it's been a few day since I was on the computer. I suppose that is when I miss a new post from you. Darn it.

Congratulations on a year of walking! That is something to be proud of. I love the bench. There is nothing I enjoy more than sitting outside and watching the world go by.

I love that you call me Gert. I've never known a Gert. Actually my real name is Geraldine (my father was Gerald) and then it went to Gerri and then to Gere. (pronounced like "chair") Maybe now I'll change it to Gert!!!!!

Walking is so therapeutic. I walk every day too. It is a most special time of day for the dogs and I! How wonderful that you were able to just stay home on the farm for so long! Isn't it great to know you can do it :) I just love the new desk you found, it is indeed perfect for your space. I too long for spring when my tea party friends can visit my garden too... such a special happy time of year! Blessings to you!

Congratulations on you and Millie's year of walks! How lovely your area looks and the desk and chair are so pretty. The ducks add such charm! Your dried zinnias look perfect as well! We have had spring like days here, but as I write this today, it is misty and very chilly.
