Walk #300 was different. Millie and I loved it, for sure. A good snowfall around here isn't something that happens often, but when it does we kind of make a big deal of it. Why, the weather guys have been talking about this one for more than a week. I can only imagine how many sleds and snow shovels were sold during that time. I just made sure we had plenty of milk and bread... and bird seeds.
"When I no longer thrill to the first snow of the season, I'll know I'm growing old."
~ Lady Bird Johnson
"We sleep, and at length awake to the still reality of a winter morning. The snow lies warm as cotton or down upon the windowsill; the broadened sash and frosted panes admit a dim and private light, which enhances the snug cheer within. The stillness of the morning is impressive. The floor creaks under our feet as we move toward the window to look abroad through some clear space over the fields...
~Henry David Thoreau

Oh what a lovely post. Your photos are incredible. Letter coming soon...
Beautiful photos and loved the quotes too-we got rain all night long and more early this morning-warm enough no ice as of yet. Next week looks brutally cold-ugh.
I always enjoyed a hike in the snow. Milly must love it too Hugs from the lake
Thoreau's quote is perfect...tho, I must be old. Snow is a four letter word for me!!
Ps, your images are stunningly beautiful.
Your wintery photos are beautiful. It looks magical. I love your rustic bench on the veranda. Good for you and Millie for welcoming a rare snowfall with a walk together.
Take care, and stay well.
Hugs,
Julia
Beautiful photos...snow looks good on your homestead. But, me thinks Lady Bird Johnson never lived in Nod...or I was born old (or both??) Thoreau, however, captured waking up to an overnight snow perfectly. ~Robin~
Snow makes everything so pretty.
LOVE your header!!
Happy Snowy walk Love the quotes. I have never seen the one from Lady Bird perfect for your description of your snowy walk.

The Cardinals are lovely and stand out in the snowy world that you get to go walk in. Congratulations on your 300th walk.
The snow looks lovely in your yard and field but will happily let you have it all. Is that Millie in the background of your last photo? If so, she's waiting for you to catch up.
It's very appealing, what you have done with those photos! I'm very happy for you. Now I'm leaving this spot and going to sit by the fire!
What beautiful snow photos. How long did the snow stay on the ground? Here in the Netherlands it's often only for a short time. Your quotes are so fitting with your text and photos. I wish you a good Thursday.
I think we all love the idea of snow, so pure and still. Your pictures are very evocative. The Mr and I are off to Norway next week so I think I will be experiencing 'real' snow. Can't wait.
Snow is pretty common around here but yours seems to be so special in the area where you can get some delightful photos! I really like how you've shown your neck 'o the woods to us! Beautiful with nice quotes too!
The Thoreau quote reminds me poignantly of the soft thick snow that so often fell in VT--that familiar sense of awakening to what I think of as 'snow-light' and the hush that goes with it.
Love the photos! We got 7 inches of snow here and it stuck to the trees too. Pretty now that it is over, but we are supposed to get an inch more each day until Sunday. Looks like Millie enjoyed her walk too! Janice
I agree that snow is pretty but only from the inside looking out as far as I'm concerned. I'm not a fan otherwise. Your photo with the cardinal is wonderful!!
Beautiful images, especially the way the monochrome of the snow makes what colours there are really leap out of the picture
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
