Kitties and a Pretty Picture...

Fall 2024

It's not a very pretty fall here because of the extremely dry conditions we have been experiencing for so very long.  The pond along which Millie and I walk every day has always been a reliable place in which to find a good picture in every season, but, even it, came up lacking this fall.  I did find a bit of color there, however, and using my iPhone mustered up a pleasing enough picture.

The barn kitties are growing up.  It has been quite a challenge to tame these little wild critters, but, slowly and surely, I am getting it done.  The Tabbies were first to allow me to touch them, and now love to be petted.  Little Blackie was next, and has now stolen my heart.  The Tuxedo cat is a wild one, but even he, is finally allowing me to pet him at the feed dish.

I still haven't definitely decided which kitties are girls and which are boys.  I actually googled for information on how to determine the sex of a kitten.  I found a good site with drawings.  Step l:  Lift tail.  Ha Ha!  I think I knew that much, but lifting Tux's tail hasn't happened yet.  I have just about concluded that the tabbies are both girls and that the little black one is a boy.  My guess is that the wild black and white kitty is a boy. When they are just a little older we will make appointments for them with our vet, then we'll know for sure.

The following quote has been going around on Facebook.  It's so me that I just have to share it here.

"Above all, do not lose your desire to walk.  Everyday, I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness.  I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it.  But by sitting still, and the more one sits still, the closer one comes to feeling ill.  Thus if one just keeps on walking, everything will be all right."

~Soren Kierkegaard

It has been 934 days since Millie and I last missed our walk over the hill.  If I counted correctly we will hit the 1,000 mark on Jan. 2, 2025.

Glad the kittens have become more domesticated and enjoy a human touch. Drought conditions here too and the leaves have missed some of the color change as well.

The kitties are so adorable!! Good for you being patient and gradually taming them. Miss Kitty will let us pet her sometimes but not pick her up. If I sit out on the swing she'll come and lie down beside me but never gets onto my lap. A little disappointing but at least she's friendly (in an off hand way). I hope your 4 get totally over their wildness.
So you and Millie continue to walk and now you're up to 934 days!!! I sure miss my walks and hope to be able to walk again soon, even if I have to use a cane for a while.

Your kittens are very appealing--there's no such thing as an ordinary cat, no matter how many tabbies or calicos or tuxedo cats in the world. I have a soft heart for black cats--that little one would come home with me!
Very dry here--my walks are noisy with scrunchy leaves underfoot.

Hubby and I take our sticks when we go walking. Never know when we might need to whack a pig. Ha! Tabby White Paws allows me to pick her up but isn’t crazy about it.

I feel like we were cheated out of our gorgeous October. We are hoping for a bit of rain early Thursday.

Sharon, I was hoping you would stop by and wsee my babies! Little Blackie is the most playful and just full of himself. You would love him! Tux spat at me today when I stroked his back. 🥴

I thought you would appreciate this quote. I do feel like I am walking away sicknesses.

That’s a wonderful quote. The kitties are so sweet! I’m not surprised the tabbies warmed up to you first - they have a reputation for being more friendly.

I'm not a big cat fan, but those kittens are adorable! I'm so impressed with you record for walking. Maybe when I retire, I can do that. I love to walk.

So good to see a post from you and get an update on the kittens. They grow too fast! My favorites are Blackie (of course!) and White Paws. Drought here cut our colors very short.... October just isn't Octobering like others Octobers Octobered. ~Robin~

I love your picture of the pond; such beautiful colors. Each of your kittens appears to be posing for you. How fun they must be. You have made quite the achievement of your walking 934 days. Good luck to you on making it to your 1000th.

I know I have checked this blog since MOnday and this post did not shot. It did that when one of my other buddies went through Hurricane Milton. Anyway, first thought after reading the quote...do you visit Karen at the Life is Good blog...she walks 6 miles every day...occasionally she can walk outside so she does laps in their house.

If I live close to you I would be begging for a kitty but hope you would tell me no, cause I don't need one. But I so love tabbies and I even love the black ones...as I sit here and listen to Kitty purr...

The kittens are so very pretty. Sexing kittens is never easy, even when you can lift the tail!
The quotation from Soren Kierkegard rings so true. I'm longing to get back to walking.
