We are still seeing wild ducks on the pond almost every day, so migration is surely still ongoing. It's the time of the year when I pick up my favorite book that delves deeply into the subject ~ My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George. Yes, it is a book written for kids, but I love it still.
I have been doing lots of cleaning out in the beds around the house and in the little garden, but still leaving anything blooming for the critters that pass our way. There's just enough, it seems, for the monarchs for they keep dropping by.

Millie and I have made a few more trips back to the hill where the big pine trees grow to bring in another load of pine needle mulch. This added layer seems to be helping the soil and is certainly keeping most of the weeds at bay.

Note: The above shoes are my town shoes. Below are the ones I trek over the hill in, but the overall goal is still the same...got to keep up.

I haven’t read My Side of the Mountain. I will put it on my list! I know we have it at the library. How are the kitties?
I thought the Monarch were under threat, or at least, declining. It's good to see that they are still visiting.

I learned to love this book when I was teaching school. The second and third one in the trilogy really get into migration. I think you will like it too.
It always excites me to have these beautiful creations visit my garden. It worries me that they may be under threat. Hummingbird numbers were way down this year. Another worry! Thanks for the visit.

Debbie, I did a watercolor by looking at the front cover of the book I mentioned. I wish now that I had kept on painting for I have forgotten so much I learned during that time. I am glad to have a fellow friend who shares my love for walking especially with furry friends.

I think of you and Millie a lot, because your good habits are in such contrast to mine, as far as walking goes. I guess I can't follow the examples of all of my favorite bloggers! It's good to hear that you are keeping on trucking - actually hiking - even though it was a hard summer. I like seeing your shoes. Keens are my favorite, too, and I have owned a dozen at least, but currently it's a pair of Teva high tops that are my best. Of course Teva would only make them for a year or two and now no more. I'll probably end up with another pair of Keens, which will be fine.
I read My Side of the Mountain again recently. I always like it even if it is a bit fantastical in ways, especially as to the "kitchen" utensils. I didn't know it was part of a trilogy. I will have to look into that.
Your hawk painting is wonderful! And an amazing photo of the monarch. I didn't see many of them this summer and I hope it was just the luck of the draw and not the sign of a further decline in their numbers.

I should start keeping track of Dollor and my walks. Ella wasn't a big walker, but Dollor sure is. I wear Muck boots when I walk. I so love them. I will walk in rain, snow, or cold with them. I'm super impressed by how many days you have walked.
