A place for everything...

Millie and I are back to walking, but we aren't counting yet.  Maybe we never will.  But, if we were I think it might be four or five.

"A place for everything, and everything in its place," must have been one of my mother's best quotes for I heard it often enough through the years.  Now, it is one of my own.

We have been cleaning and organizing closets.  There are so many books, many of them gifts from the kids.  I sat for a bit and turned through the pages of one of my favorites, Beatrix Potter A Journal.  Our granddaughter gave me this one.   (But, don't think for one moment that these are the only books in this house; no, not nearly.)

How wonderful this page is - surely makes me anxious for warmer days ahead.

I am amending this post, adding a few more pics from the closet.

My daughter got me hooked on these Ralph Kylloe books.

My favorite here is the Gee's Bend book.

I don't know what I would do without the Carl Hunter books.  Many years ago, a friend and I went to one of his presentations on plants of Arkansas.  We even brought home signed copies of his wonderful books.  I am fascinated with Mary Austin's book, but I don't think I could ever stand to live in the desert.

I need to work on cleaning and organizing...and would love to look at that book. Actually, would love to see what books you have.

Isn't that Beatrix Potter A Journal great? I got mine a few years ago and now I can't remember if that's one of the books I ordered from Amazon or if I found it at the thrift store.
Another "Journal" along the same line is called Fairyopolis. Are you familiar with Cicely Mary Barker's flower fairies? When GD C was little we collected many of Barker's little books so in later years when I found this bigger book I got it to add to our collection.
Organizing is something I enjoy and I share your Mom's philosophy :)

If I stopped to thumb thru books, nothing else would get done. It's great for you two to be walking once again.

I can't seem to get motivated to do much but hook my rugs. What a lovely book that is. We are cold and a light coating of snow overnight makes me just want to tuck in until mother nature decides to give us spring

That book looks delightful! Reminds me somewhat of the Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. I had it in my collection at one time and I think I must have loaned it to someone who didn't return it. Might have to indulge in another copy one day.

So glad you are feeling better! I love your organizational skills. I HAVE to have things in order or I would flip out. And, yes we are ALL anxious for warmer days ahead. The first photo here is perfect for the time.

Good morning, thank you for sharing some of your book collections. I have never picked up a Beatrice Potter book, the journal looks beautiful.
Beautiful photo, glad you are enjoying walking again. I have been back to being cold again this past week. The lake house is just so cold for some reason.
Happy Monday and new week hugs

I must get the journal. As you know, I live in a desert canyon, which is not really true. I live in the mountains, at 4000 feet above the Mojave Desert, which is a high desert here in our area, the town of Mojave below us is at 3000 feet. I come from a country with tens of throusands of lakes, one around every corner or so it seems, and I've come to love the high desert a lot. This does not mean I would love the Sahara.

So glad to hear you are back to your walks again, you must be feeling better. Don't worry about the counting - it's the getting out and feeling spring approaching that matters isn't it?
Your Mum and mine had the same philosophy but in my case it hasn't stuck - or at least, I do have places for things, but sometimes there are more things than there are places to put them!! My shelves are thoroughly overstocked, and I do try not to buy more books, though that Beatrix Potter one looks delightful. We holiday each year in the Lake District near to where she lived and have visited Hill Top House which is delightful. Must go back there again, perhaps this year - is there a connection between the name of your blog and her home? I'd not thought of that before :-)

Everything is so nice and neat and tidy.
After our 3 days of snow, I'm more than ready for the warmer weather to STAY HERE. :)

Beautiful sunrise...

Beautiful Beatrix Potter book!!!!!!

I envy your neatnessssssssss. How beautiful every thing looks, each in its own place. My ideal. But I fall down on it.

Don't think I would do well in a desert either, nor in a flat, flat place. Green and hills, for me. :-)

Gentle hugs,

Oh but my closets looked like your closets! Wow... They are, in and of themselves, an artistic statement. I love...and, actually, adore, organization; however, I also love and adore too much stuff...sto opening a closet of mine requires a signed non-liability waiver. 😳 I'm a big fan of Beatrix Potter...but I did not know about that beautiful journal. Ahhk...so you inspire AND enable...all in one fell swoop. ~Robin~
