I Go Out Walkin' After Midnight...

"I Go Out Walkin' After Midnight" (an old Patsy Cline song).  And, that's just about what we did very early this morning.  With rain on the way and a Thanksgiving meal to get on the table, I was in a tizzy to get going early.

It was a quiet and peaceful walk until we approached a little grove of hackberries where a oh-so-precious family of raccoons were having an early breakfast, or perhaps, a late dinner.  They stared down at us, and we stared up at them.  I had the feeling that they and Millie might be old acquaintances for neither party seemed especially surprised to see the other.  Millie was loathe to leave until I promised her a "cookie" when we got home.

So, Thanksgiving 2019 is in the history books.  It was a lovely day even though it was wet and dreary outside.  All of our children and grandchildren were here.

Well, all the cooking and cleaning and eating is done and life will return to normal. More or less. With Christmas coming there will again be lots to do. Good thing you and Millie get out in nature and recharge your batteries.

Glad that you didn’t go out walking after midnight alone. It must have cleared your mind in preparation for the day. ☺️ I would be quite unsettled to see all those raccoons in one place. It is safe to say that I will not be out walking after midnight.

We made it through the cooking, eating and cleaning up afterward too! Turkey was one of the nicest one's I can remember. Our tummies were full. For the grands we watched the movie "Frozen"; a favorite...while eating some wonderful strawberry and pumpkin pie's their mommy made. Tonight is the traditional drive through our Christmas Light's at the park; and see what people have up on their homes. People put up decorations early to beat the cold temperatures. Our street alone has lots to enjoy. So the Thanksgiving traditions continue on. Happy you had your walk and you were together with your family. We are all so blessed.

Ah, Patsy Cline--a perfect choice for a dark and cold walk to appreciate the warmth of a family Thanksgiving!

Sounds like a great day...we had ours the day before till son-in-law could go to a couple on his side of the family. He is usually working, or got to go to work, or just getting home from work on almost every Thanksgiving and Christmas.

So wonderful to have your entire family there although I know full well that it is a lot of work! I used to have a family of racoons that lived in a tree in my pasture. I didn't mind them except I never got any peaches from my peach tree because they always beat me to it!

Hi Mary, your photo is wonderful. They must have been enjoying their tasty berries quite a bit to stick around while you watched and took a photo. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving! ~Carolyn

Re the swans on my post today, Dec 5...about swans. Sometimes there are a 2 or 3 pairs that might stay in the area, but not bunches of them. In the fall there are several that pass through. They will be out in the cornfields, sometimes on the strip pits. I can never get good photos of them in the cornfields.
