One More Look...

It's not often that we have this much snow, so are taking one more look before it's gone.

The girls are back in the window from whence they came.  They are tucked back
into their old familiar cans where they will feel secure until the final work is done.
is done.

One of my favorite passages from Willa Cather in Death Comes For the Archbishop
has to do with things made by the human hand.

"The thick clay walls had been
finished on the inside by the deft palms of Indian women, and had that irregular
and intimate quality of things made entirely by the human hand."
~Willa Cather

The Granddaughter's Snow Bear... "that irregular and intimate quality."
I love it!

Thanks for stopping by our snowy woods this morning.  Take care

and keep your feet warm.  Spring is on the way!

Hi Mary, I just wrote up a post too just now. We really got allot of snow here too-which is not that common in this area. Your photos are beautiful.
Your dolls are really amazing-do you sell them or give them as gifts?
I love granddaughter's snow teddy bear-sooo sweet I love it.
Take care Kathy

Your girls lined up in their cans look oddly truncated. I think they are getting impatient.
A snow bear. Much more interesting than a snow man. If we get more snow I'll have to go out and build a snow bear with M.

Looking at the details of your dolls' garments I'm wondering if they are stitched by machine, 'by hand' or a combination of both? I recall that trying to fit sleeves into tiny garments by machine is very frustrating.
I would be interested in a post re how the dolls are 'born'--materials and techniques--each one has her own personality.
Sunshine on snow here today--and warmer temps at last--I expect by tomorrow that sparkling clean beauty will be melting away.

Echoing Willa Cather but related to quilting, I once saw a review of an antique quilt, and the reviewer stating that it looked like it was "stitched with an aging hand." That may just need to go on my quilt labels these days. There's something very real and pure in that statement.

I like the photo of the mower in the snow...a summer tool just waiting for the warmth (me too!!). And those pretty maidens all in a row - each one so filled with different personalities.

Wouldn't mind our snow melting about now!!
The girls look lovely and love the snow bear.

I can remember my daddy using a mowing machine like that...pulled by our old horse. When I was really young...

The girls are patient...it is worth the wait.

Spring is indeed on its way; here in Sussex the birds are trilling and thrilling in the trees and it all looks rather warm - until the wind blows of course!
Your little ladies look so demure tucked away in their cans, ready for the next stage of their existence. They have such character.
I hope your snow goes soon, and that the frozen calf is recovering

That snow-bear is the cutest thing I've seen in a long time!

Really nice pictures of your snowy scenery. The girls look like they are watching all that goes on inside their home. And...the snow bear is really great!

I love the quote. The dolls are stunning. Enjoy the snow views, although by now I suppose they might be gone.

That irregular and intimate quality. Maybe that's why I love collecting hand made art dolls and old rag dolls. Phil says it's because I "love the ugly babies" but they're not ugly! They're perfect, like that snow bear.

Snow, snow bears...oh my! I bet the grands loved playing out in all that white stuff. It is a nice change...for awhile. The dolls are coming along and look wonderful.
