A Summer Garden...

They beg for water.  I give it to them.  They do not know rain.

I am calling this one "Matchy Matchy."  The Critter does match up well with all that stuff in the center ~ stamen and pistil, I think.  It has been a while since Seventh Grade Life Science.

"Where are the Swallowtails?" Well, they are not in my garden, except this one black one.

But there have been several of the zebra stripes.  Wikipedia says they are closely associated with pawpaws, and are rarely found far from these trees.  We do have  groves of these trees along the small streams here.

Even O'Keeffe would love this one.  And, I do too!

I thought bee balm was for the bees.

Crepe paper never looked so good...

Ahh, there are the bees!

I have been calling this place, The Land of Little Rain (Mary Austin), but Dan says not to despair for it will rain soon despite what the forecasters predict.  Oh for the power of positive thinking!

But, for now, I will be out in the garden with my garden hose until dark.

OT and no big deal, but wanted to let you know that every time I leave a comment on your blog, I get an email from Yahoo saying my message was blocked. "Message not accepted for policy reasons." Obviously, you're getting comments on your blog, but if you're wondering why you don't get email notification of them, that's why.

Was sure I'd posted a comment....or maybe I was in a hurry so figured I'd post it later? Anyway your flowers are gorgeous and yes O'Keeffe would have had her paint brushes dipped right away. Amazing that one flower does look like crepe paper, and what a beautiful bee photo you captured.
Enjoyed the tour of your garden.

Me too, with the hose. The one nice thing about this drought is that I get a vacation from the mower. Your poppies are gorgeous. Your whole garden is lovely and does not look at all starved for water. Will email you soon.

Oh your garden looks wonderful, you must have been doing so much watering to keep all those lovely flowers opening their faces to the sun, ready for flying and jumping things to taste their nectar. Our water is metered here. and with record high temperatures in the south of the UK we are having to accept that some plants will just not thrive, but still, we do try and keep them going.

Me too with the hose and I don't even have to feel guilty about not using water from the rain barrels now because they are empty. I agree that poppies look like the finest crepe paper. I admire your zinnias and wish that mine would bloom. The ones that got eaten and are trying to regrow might bloom in October but there is a container that I sowed some seeds in and they just might reward my watering efforts soon.

Look out next year! The zinnia and Mother Of Pearl Poppy seeds I ordered form the company that was on your blog have arrived! YOU are a great photographer of flowers! LOVE LOVE your pictures. They gave me hope and joy.

Incredible photos...and blooms. One would never suspect there was a lack of water there. Those poppies...oh those poppies!!! I never knew there were such endless varieties...and these make the plain red ones look like cheap harlots. I have to find a way to grow at least a few of those wonderful pinks here. I do hope you get some rain soon...although that sky does not look like it holds any promise of rain any time soon. ~Robin~

Thanks for following my blog. I welcome you.

Your photos are amazing. I love the closeup details.

We are having rain often but only in small amounts with a few good downpours. Last year, I had to water constantly and the lawn was turning brown and bare patches everywhere, this year, I can't keep up with the mowing and it's lush and green. The temperature also is different this year. It's been cooler than normal but I feel bad for those who are experiencing droughts.

I hope you get a good rain to quench the earth.

The photo of your flower garden suggests what I am laboring to do in the rather unfriendly soil behind our house--a very informal gathering of almost wild flowers and plants that will reseed and pop up here and there. the weather hasn't helped my progress.
