Grandma, Grandpa, and me... |
Two years before my dad was born, my grandmother painted this. She gave it to me when I was about ten years old. I wish I had asked her to tell me about the painting then, but kids don't think of things like that. Was someone teaching her to paint, or had she just picked it up on her own? Well no matter, I think it is very good and wish I could do half so well. I love it and keep it in my Bible.
I have been surprised this week to find a few of the poppies still blooming. I have pressed a few between the pages of a book and used them on a journal page.

My turn to hand out "wows." Wow...your grandmother's iris is stunning. What a treasure - and I am glad that, as a child of 10, you were wise enough to keep it as such. And what an adorable little you were! I love the smiles on your and your g-ma's faces. Thanks for the explanation of Linnie's name. I loved it from the first time I read it. ~Robin~
The perfect poppies are blooming late so that they can get into the journal at the beginning!
I love old photos and the one of little you with your grandparents is so sweet.
The Iris painting that your Grandma made and gave to you is a priceless treasure.
Have you not been journaling in the past? I wish I could sketch/paint to decorate mine but alas I can't. Actually I find my journal quite boring but handy for looking back to see what happened when. If you have any ideas to liven up pages I'm anxious to know them. Maybe when I go over to your other blog.
How wonderful. This is exciting. I will check your journal shares as soon as I click publish for this comment ... happy writing
Your grandmother's painting is indeed a treasure. And what inspiration for a journal! A fascinating way to document things you want to remember in a creative way.
Your grandmother has such a sweet and kind face! ..and YOU are the sweetest little girl in this photo. Gpa is handsome and proud! Love the old photos!
A wonderful treasure to have the painting and the picture of her too.
Your Grandmother's painting is really lovely. a journal was a wonderful gift too-I have tried doing a daily journal and it doesn't work out for me-perhaps if I stopped blogging I would my thoughts in a journal instead.
Your art is beautiful too, I will check out your other blog. thanks for letting me know about this post-I missed it somehow Hugs from the lake
Such a treasure to have your Grandma's painting. Obviously artistic talent runs in the family!
Had a thought re the beautiful pressed poppies you've mounted in your book...would it be a good idea to seal it somehow? Perhaps with a coating or two of some sort of sealant, or a piece of mactac?
Oh how lovely! And what a cutie you are! I love your journal page and can't wait for more.
I love to see the beautiful painting!
